Ingrid Repic is an emerging canadian artist who draws from the abundant supply of images provided by social media feeds, carefully collecting reference photographs for her delicate and intimate watercolor paintings. Ingrid adapts transient, snap shot imagery and encourages the viewer to slow down and laboursly study the subjects the way that she has. Admittedly a member of the generation steeped in a culture of profile pages and smartphones, Ingrid investigates and reflects on the themes of documentation, narcissism and projected ideals. Through portraits, still lives and figure painting her work highlights the careful curation of “The Self” in contemporary culture while acknowledging the overlap of photography, fashion and material arts.
